We had a great session yesterday (5th March), with the club members writing their own Scratch games – some very inventive ones!! We were a little tight for time, but we’ll post some of them up to the site next week for you to see what they’ve created!
Meantime, slides for Week 6 are here: Week 6 Slides
Week 5 slides are now available from here:
Week 5 Slides
Code club resumes this week (5th March) with the last session in this first block.
This week we’re going to be doing:
Scratch: the chatbot activity: ChatBot Project
Python: Turtle Racing (or whichever you’re up to): Turtle Race!
Or, if you didn’t make one previously, you can design a keyring in TinkerCAD (use the link at the top right of this page). Remember to “Group” shapes to remove them (i.e. add a cylinder into a block to make a hole in it!).
Code Club Week 4 slides, where we looked at TinkerCAD and 3D printing, are available from here: Week4
For Week 5, we’ll be getting back to Python & Scratch, and for those who didn’t do a key ring, or need to do it again, we can revisit TinkerCAD for some more 3d designing!
NB: NO CODE CLUB on the 26th of February – the meeting then will be postponed to the 5th March, which will be the last session in this block.
Week 4 preview!
This week, we’re going to be looking at 3D Printing and modelling with an online modelling application. Hopefully we’ll have time to print out a few designs also!
No code club next week due to the in-service day, so after the 5th Feb, the next session will be on the 19th!
Week 3 slides are now available: CodeClub 3
This week at code club we’ll be doing Activity 3 from the CodeClub Scratch projects website – Ghostbusters!!! Click on the ghosts to zap them, and earn a point! This builds on last week’s session with using variables for the “score”, and more about events, and animation.
Scratch – Project 3 – Ghostbusters
For Python, we’re going to look at the 2nd activity which introduces the randint (Random Integer) function to make random choices in games.
Python – Project 2 – Rock, Paper, Scissors
Also, for some of the more advanced members, we’ll get the RaspberryPi and SenseHat up and running, and they can start using the screen and temperature/pressure/magentometer and gyroscope built into the SenseHat in programs.
Another good session for Code Club Week 2!!
We had some great fun animating spaceships in Scratch, and several members started playing with Python, and exploring input & output.
Slides from Week 2 are available here: Code Club Week 2 Slides
We’re going to hit the ground running for Week 2! Code club members should login to their laptops first, before snack, and that’ll let us troubleshoot any login issues without using up club time 🙂
Week 2 will be a recap of Week 1 just to make sure everyone is familiar with the core concepts. For Scratch, we’ll then do the 2nd Activity, which is:
Scratch: Lost In Space
This builds on the introduction to coordinates which we talked about last week. We’ll also start looking at Python for those members who want to do more code-based programming, and we’ll do the first Python activity, which is about printing, and an introduction to variables.
Python: About me!
Powerpoint slides for the 1st session of code club are now available below (as an Adobe PDF). We also have a new Twitter account @AiryhallCoders – pop on by and follow us for the latest CodeClub news!

The first code club meeting will take place on the 15th January 2018. In this first session we’ll look at Scratch, and the Rock Band activity – you can find the sheet for this activity here:
